چکیده

Calculations are presented of the in-plane far-infrared conductivity of a dx2−y2-wave superconductor, incorporating elastic scattering due to impurities and inelastic scattering due to spin fluctuations. The impurity scattering is modeled by short-range potential scattering with arbitrary phase shift, while scattering due to spin fluctuations is calculated within a weak-coupling Hubbard model picture. The conductivity is characterized by a low-temperature residual Drude feature whose height and weight are controlled by impurity scattering, as well as a broad peak centered at 4∆0 arising from clean-limit inelastic processes. Results are in qualitative agreement with experiment despite missing spectral weight at high energies. 74.25.Nf, 74.72.-h, 72.10.Di, 72.10.Fk Typeset using REVTEX

Imaginary part of the infrared conductivity of a dx2-y2 superconductor.

We give results for the effect of Born and of resonant impurity scattering on the imaginary part of the infrared conductivity s(V) of a dx22y2 superconductor. Inelastic scattering is included in our work through an electron-boson spectral density which also causes the pairing. We emphasize the product of V times the imaginary past of s(V). Its zero frequency limit gives the penetration depth, w...

Neutron Scattering in a D X 2 −y 2 –wave Superconductor with Strong Impurity Scattering and Coulomb Correlations Typeset Using Revt E X 1

We calculate the spin susceptibility at and below Tc for a dx2−y2–wave superconductor with resonant impurity scattering and Coulomb correlations. Both the impurity scattering and the Coulomb correlations act to maintain peaks in the spin susceptibility, as a function of momentum, at the Brillouin zone edge. These peaks would otherwise be suppressed by the superconducting gap. The predicted amou...

Gap renormalization in dirty anisotropic superconductors: Implications for the order parameter of the cuprates.

We contrast the effects of non-magnetic impurities on the properties of superconductors having a dx2−y2 order parameter, and a highly anisotropic s-wave (ASW) gap with the same nodal structure. The non-vanishing, impurity induced, offdiagonal self-energy in the ASW state is shown to gap out the low energy excitations present in the clean system, leading to a qualitatively different impurity res...

Impurity effect as a probe for order parameter symmetry in iron-based superconductors

The pointlike impurity scattering is studied for a superconductor with different pairing symmetries based on a minimal two band model proposed by S. Raghu et al. [Phys. Rev. B 77, R220503 (2008)], and the self-consistent Bogoliubov-de Gennes equations. Two intragap resonance peaks are found at or near the nonmagnetic impurity site for a typical sx2y2 symmetry and strong scattering potentials. S...

Quasi-particle Lifetimes in a D X 2 −y 2 Superconductor Typeset Using Revt E X

We consider the lifetime of quasi-particles in a d-wave superconductor due to scattering from antiferromagnetic spin-fluctuations, and explicitly separate the contribution from Umklapp processes which determines the electrical conductivity. Results for the temperature dependence of the total scattering rate and the Umklapp scattering rate are compared with relaxation rates obtained from thermal...
